Even though I decided to write this blog in English as well, I forgot to write one yesterday so this will be the first English blog that I will post for this Internship. Before I go on and write about my experience so far, I would like to introduce myself. My name Morihisa Nagai and I am a student at Case Western Reserve University majoring in Chemical Engineering.
For this internship, I am doing machine learning and I had no prior knowledge about the topic before coming to the internship. I didn't really know what to expect coming to Acroquest, but so far I am learning a lot everyday and I am happy that I chose to do an internship here.
Yesterday, I was told that I need to be asking more questions about my project because I would waste time struggling by myself for a long time. Today, my goal was to keep asking questions. Though I did slightly better than yesterday, I was still thinking for way too long. 'If you struggled for more than 3 minutes, you should ask someone'. This is just one of the many interesting policies that Acroquest believes in.
There are two things that I find very unique: Coffee break and meditation time. Everyday, from 15:00, there is a 15 minutes time period where everyone must get up from their seat and talk with other workers. Meditation time starts from 18:00 and for 5 minutes, all lights get turned off and everyone meditates to very calm soothing music. It is actually intriguing how this 5 minutes can renergize you for later work.
What's more interesting is how Acroquest allows the employees to present unique ideas and accepts them. Not many workplace actually listens to what the employees says and accetpts ideas and I feel very fortunate that I get to do an internship at such a welcoming company.
I always try not to forget the feeling of appreciation towards the company that allows me to experience new things. Hiring an intern is not a very easy thing to do. If someone who is reading this blog is trying to get an internship, I hope that you will that appreciate the hard work that company puts for the interns.
